Powered By Charge

PbC games are narrative tabletop role-playing games about groups of characters struggling to achieve their goals, but pushing themselves to get there.

It uses a quick dice resolution mechanics inspired by Forged in the Dark games, but with an entirely new spin, using clever ways to make the players want to engage with the game as much as possible.

There are now dozens of published games powered by Charge. Go give them a look!

On top of that, the Charge Creation Jam recently ended with a bunch of fantastic entries.

What's the main difference between Charge and base Forged in the Dark?

Any chance of releasing a version in Affinity, so we can just edit that if we come up with something? Also, what's up with Dash? I followed the link from your website to itch, and it asks for a password

Dash is planned to be released near the end of the summer, a bit after the end of the Breathless Jam!

And an Affinity Publisher Template is definitely an option. I would just need to duplicate the current version and remove the art/assets.

I'm also planning to rewrite some rules to make them clearer in the middle of the summer, so stay tuned for this!

Thanks for the reply! Looking forward to seeing it. I've been checking out some of these SRDs in the hope it will get me inspired to write again. Been a few years since I've done anything

Charge is an amazing system; it's easy to work with, it's broad while allowing you to fine-tune as much as you want, the creator is amazing about communicating with other creators, and the community surrounding the game is stellar.

I seriously couldn't ask for a better system to work with, or a better community to be part of. I'm currently working on a Charge game and I'm really excited about it.

Thank you so much for the kind words. It means so much to me! I'm very lucky to have you as a member of this community, and your game is just amazing!

oh my goodness thank you, I'm blushing :D

Charge looks like a great system! It's focused first and foremost on the narrative, and it gets right into the action with the momentum mechanic and quick, easy-to-understand rules! This is the perfect game for a group of storytellers. Only sad that I found the game at the very end of the creation jam!

This is so kind, thank you so much!

If you still want to make something for the jam and have to submit it later than the end date, just reach out on Discord or Twitter @RPDeshaies, and I'll send you a private submit link 😊

I'd love to see what you can build with the system!

If you're asking "What is Charge about?", well, the answer is Charge is about whatever you want it to be. It's a RPG system that hits that wonderful sweet spot where it's both simple to use and adaptable to any setting. You could take the basic 12 actions and start up a game in five minutes, charge things up with the Momentum mechanic, add Talents and the Progression mechanics for longer campaigns, shake up your plot with World Forces.. Charge is a like a lego set, something that can be used to play a quick one-shot, a series of games, or even be built into your own, original world.

While other games might resist being hacked or fall apart once you start pulling on threads, Charge was CREATED to be modified. Change the names of actions! Make it so players have 3, 6, or 9 actions instead of 12! Create playbooks or character classes! Adjust dials so things are harder or easier! Grab a bunch of community-made Extras and throw them into your game, then make your own!

The whole point of this SRD is for you to copy it, rip it up, break it apart and reassemble it, and make it something that's unique to you and the story you want to tell - and there's a community willing to help you out, too.

I don't think I could have described Charge better than this.

You are wonderful. Thank you for the kind words 💗
