Follow the Path

The Path Of The Wolves is a simple hack of Charge to play within the Witcher universe.

I made this game to show how easy it could be to make a Powered by Charge game, and also because I love the Witcher novels,  games and series so much.

Silver for Monsters...

In this game, you play as Wolves. Humans who went through intense mutations as kids to adapt their body in becoming dangerous weapons against the monsters plaguing the world. People are scared of your kind, but will still hire you to do the dirty job.

Steel for Men...

Brew potions, fight dangerous creatures, and earn some money to rest at the Den during the upcoming harsh winter.

#ChargeCreationJam

This game was submitted as part of the Cease & Desist Jam as well as the Charge Creation Jam.

This game is free because I don't own the rights to the Witcher, but if you want to support my work, check-out the Charge SRD to make your own Powered by Charge games.

If you are a game designer and are here because of the Charge Creation Jam, you can consider this one of the simplest way of making a game with Charge.

It contains the original content of the SRD but a couple of things were changed:

  • The original 12 action list was changed to a list containing 9 actions that better fits the Witcher universe.
  • Momentum was renamed to Adrenaline

I might revisit this hack later to include more things like specific mechanics to handle fighting monsters, making potions or handling toxicity, but this will do for now.

I still wanted to publish this for y'all to see how Charge can be versatile to fit any setting without even going out of my way.

I have other plans for the jam, so talk to y'all soon!

This is a fantastic example of how powerful Charge is and what can be done with it. This simplification to fit the Witcher universe is just one example and could easily be expanded out to be 'crunchier' or simplified even further all within the Charge framework.

The dice system is simple enough to stay out of the way of the story, but still provides a myriad of outcomes and possibilities.

I especially love the implementation here of Clocks, Flashbacks and the situational talents where players define the circumstance their talent bonus applies!

Thanks for making and sharing this!
